Brita vs. PUR Water Filter Pitcher: Which Should I Choose?

Welcome to our Brita vs PUR comparison. When it comes to water filters, Brita or PUR are probably two of the biggest names around. Here, we want to do a comparison of these two so you will be able to work out which one is going to be right for you. There will be no winners or losers here, just cold, hard facts.

Size and Design

The Brita water filter deals with 10-cups of water. The PUR water filter 18-cups of water.
Perhaps the key difference between these water filters is how you use them. The Brita water filter is a jug. It only works as a jug. The PUR is a water filter which acts as a water dispenser. This means that you need to use the small nozzle at the front of the device to get your water out. You will not be able to pour the water directly into your glass. This means that in many cases, the Brita may be more convenient. If you want something to put in the fridge, the PUR is probably the best route to go down.

Filter Technology

The filter technology in both the Brita and the PUR are about the same. They will both remove contaminants from the water that you are drinking adequately. The filters in each of the units can cope with 40 gallons of water before you need to replace it. The fact that the PUR is a slightly larger water filter means that you will probably be replacing it a lot more often.
Due to the technology behind each of the devices, the amount of contaminants that are removed does vary. It is only a small amount, but the difference may mean a lot in some cases:

– The PUR filters 97% of Chlorine. The Brita removes 94%.
– The PUR filters out 97% of Lead. The Brita filters out 95% of lead.

This is based on research carried out by the NSF, which means that you can be sure that this is the most accurate information around.
The team at PUR claim that their water filter is able to remove 13 different contaminants from the water, while the Brita is only able to remove 6, or at least that is their claim. However, it is perhaps worth noting that the ‘extra’ contaminants that the PUR removes are unlikely to be found in your standard water supply so you should not really see this as much of benefit.
In terms of replacement filter prices, the two of them should be much the same price. There may be a few savings here and there but there should not be anything too drastic.

Filter Features

The Brita contains a sticker which will allow you to work out when the filter needs to be replaced, the PUR does not contain the same thing. However, it is easy to tell when a filter is close to needing to be replaced. You will be able to notice a change in the taste of the water. It is nothing major, but when you have been drinking water from a filter for a while, you can tell.
